Drivers that are new to off-roading sometimes get confused between the equipment that is used for towing and those that are used for recovery. Because they are made of an elastic material, recovery straps should never be used for towing. As you may have guessed, tow straps are the items that should be used to transport inoperable vehicles. Hooking these devices up to the front of your Jeep Wrangler TJ for the first time can also be confusing. More often than not, there will be a pair of Jeep Wrangler TJ tow hooks and a pair of D- rings. Because they actually close and recovery straps can be dangerous if they come loose, it is always best to attach them to D-rings before you try to pull your vehicle from the mud. Tow hooks, on the other hand, are used with tow straps and are quite safe.
