This cross member is used to mount extra items onto the top of your bed rack. Usually, this addition will help mount rooftop tents. They are required when mounting a tent that is smaller than 62". This means the standard 56" tent requires you to purchase 2 of these cross members to allow for proper and centered tent mounting. This product is great for better reinforcement on heavy items mounted on the bed rack. Can be mounted after or during the initial install. 

This cross member mounts side to side on the vehicle. In other words, the vehicle's 3 to 9 o'clock. This product or the other cross member works, just order according to what you prefer.
