2020 Jeep Wrangler
A new Black and Tan and Sahara Edition were released for 2020. Apart from these new aesthetic packages, the slew of other changes made to the 2020 Jeep Wrangler mainly involve re-arranging equipment options throughout the various trim levels. The Pentastar 3.6L V6 continues as the base engine, however the eTorque mild-hybrid assist option can now only be paired with this engine when equipped on a Sahara edition JL. The freshly minted 2.0L turbo four cylinder is available to all models as an option, and arriving late in the year was a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6. Shared from the Ram platform, this turbodiesel puts out 260 horsepower. While the lowest horsepower production of the three engines available, the EcoDiesel more than makes up for it with a massive 462 lb-ft of torque under foot.
Endless Storage Systems
The 2020 JL Wrangler - and 2-door owners will definitely be in agreement with this - are high in off-road capability but very short in terms of interior storage space. The rear cargo area is certainly limited, and even with the seats folded down, there just isn't a lot of room. That said, the exterior of a 2020 Jeep has countless mount point and integration areas that can be used with off-road storage accessories. A great example of this would be the space between the sport bars and upper roof. This can be re-utilized into an organized cargo space using a soft storage bag, strapped in place around the bar. Another area to make use of a soft storage bag is, of course, the roof. These exterior grade storage bags are usually made from neoprene, which is a water and weatherproof flexible material. Secured in place using a strap and clamp in the roof channel, roof top storage bags are very easy to mount, dismount and offer a very large cargo volume. When not needed, they are easily removed and folded up. They are great for carrying gear to the cottage or campsite, where once unpacked and taken down, the Wranger returns to normal (unlike with structural cargo racks, which are semi-permanent and require usually complete disassembly in order to change roof configuration).
Trail Security
Another basic mod to add to a 2020 JL Wrangler is a set of grab handles. Mounting to the roll bars in the front and back, grab handles give occupants a secure handhold to help steady themselves when bouncing over rough terrain. Further, for those that love to drive Safari style without the doors, grab handles give occupants a secure and easy point to latch onto. When selecting a set of grab handles for your JL Wrangler, construction material is an important aspect. Most namely, the construction of the handhold itself is most critical. The grab handles use nylon straps or paracord webbing to secure to the roll bar - both of which are very strong. However, the material used in the grab handle portion can differ significantly from one manufacturer to the next. Grab handles with a molded plastic or rubber sleeve will prove quite comfortable to hold and easy to grab with a wet or muddy hand. Foam handles, while very comfortable at first, can wear quick and, if subject to moisture, become soggy and uncomfortable. On that vein, avoid sets that provide no grab handle at all. These basic sets will comprise of solely a strap (usually nylon) which will quickly become uncomfortable as nylon as a tendency to twist and apply sharp pressure across the palm of the hand. Last but not least, some grab handle designs use paracord as the mounting cord and as the handle. Woven into a thicker area in which to grab, paracord offers good feel. In addition, often times these paracord handles are actually a single length of paracord, specially bundled to produce the shape of the handle. In a pinch, it can be unwound and used as a rope, with all the normal strength that paracord provides.
