2015 Toyota Tacoma

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma bids goodbye to the regular cab body style, but both the access cab and double cab remain. It’s quite a shame since the Tacoma was among the last midsize pickups on sale to offer a two-door regular cab body. As usual, the access cab model has a 6.1-foot bed, while the double cab is available with a five-foot short bed or standard 6.1-foot bed. The Tacoma is available with two engine options. The standard motor is a 2.7-liter four-banger with 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 4.0-liter V6 has 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The V6 engine has a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, access cab models have a standard five-speed manual transmission and an optional four-speed automatic.

More Power, More Smiles

Despite riding on an aging platform, nobody would dare question Tacoma’s off-road capabilities. The 2015 Toyota Tacoma’s four-cylinder and V6 engine offer ample shove, but both motors respond nicely to a couple of DIY performance upgrades. The most basic engine upgrade for the Tacoma is a cold air intake kit. Featuring non-restrictive and free-flowing tube designs and washable high-flow air filters, you can squeeze five to seven more horsepower out of your four-cylinder Tacoma with a simple cold air intake upgrade. In addition, a throttle body spacer kit can give your V6 Tacoma more horsepower, better low-end torque, and improved throttle response. These spacers incorporate a specific design to swirl the air into a vortex as it passes through. Both upgrades require no engine tuning and are easy to install using simple hand tools.

Shift with Authority

Having plenty of engine power is good, but you should consider a clutch upgrade to properly shift all available torque to the driving wheels. Aftermarket clutch kits can handle more power and torque without stiffening up the clutch pedal unnecessarily. A high-performance clutch offers more clamping force than stock using full-face clutch discs treated with organic friction materials, high-performance pressure plates, and spring-equipped hubs. If your Tacoma is pumping out upwards of 400 pound-feet of torque, you should skip the Stage 1 clutch kit and proceed directly to Stage 2. These clutches feature more aggressive friction material (usually a hybrid of synthetic and organic woven materials) and increased clamping force. You can expect stage 2 and 3 clutches too be more demanding to drive, as they bite aggressively and immediately.

Precision Ignition

Modern internal combustion engines need fuel, air, and spark to deliver power. Most engine problems like misfires, rough idling, loss of power, hard starting, and poor fuel economy are attributable to a faulty ignition system. Worn-out spark plugs, broken wires, and faulty ignition coils can cause worrying symptoms and diminish the fun. You can restore lost engine performance from your 2015 Toyota Tacoma 2.7-liter four-cylinder and 4.0-liter V6 engine with a better set of aftermarket coil packs. Replacement ignition coils offer better and more reliable performance than stock by using better materials and sturdier insulation.

  • Restore lost power
  • Reduce emissions
  • Improve fuel economy

The uninterrupted flow of electricity to the spark plugs ensures reliable engine combustion and torque production when you need it most, whether under the hot desert sun or in freezing weather. In addition, a properly working ignition system reduces harmful tailpipe emissions so that you can go off-roading in the wilderness with a clearer conscience.
