Component List:
• 2 – Lower Control Arms
Installation Notes: This install was done on a 2009 Jeep Wrangler JKU. If you’re doing this install without a lift its recommended to use four (4) jack stands to help support the Jeep® and the front axle. Four (4) 3-Ton jack stands were used during the lower control arm install. Note that the rear Zerk fitting will be the most challenging to grease because of how close the fitting is to the frame.
You may need to spray a rust penetrating spray like PB Blaster based on how rusted the control arm bolts are. It’s strongly recommended to take your Jeep® to get an alignment once you’ve completed the install.
Before Install
Installation Instructions:
1. Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires and break free the front lugs nuts using a breaker bar with a 19mm socket. Lift and support the Jeep® using jacks stands by the frame under the driver and passenger side.
2. Jack up the front axle and remove the front tires. Support the front axle with jack stands.
3. Using a 21mm open ended wrench and a socket wrench with a 21mm socket. Loosen the front lower control arm bolt and nut on the passenger side. Leave the bolt in to prevent the control arm from swinging down while breaking free the rear bolt.
4. Using the same 21mm open ended wrench and a socket wrench with a 21mm socket. Loosen the rear lower control arm bolt and nut. Now remove the front and rear bolts and slide the factory control are out.
5. Place the Steinjager lower control arm with the short-bent end facing the axle. Slide a 21mm bolt through the axle mount and loosely screw on the nut. Slide the rear 21mm blot through the frame and loosely screw on the rear nut. Do not tighten. Important Note: You may need to move the axle around a bit to get the holes to align. Be extremely careful when doing this.
6. Repeat steps 4 – 5 on the opposite site of the Jeep®.
7. Place the tires back on the Jeep® and remove jack stands. With the Jeep® on its own weight. Torque the lug nuts to 95-foot pounds and the lower control arm bolts to 125-foot pounds. You will need to grease the Zerk fittings on front and rear of each lower control arm. Remove the Zerk cap off and grease the lower control arms using a grease gun.
Note that the rear Zerk fitting will be the most challenging to grease because of how close the fitting is to the frame.
