How to Install Smittybilt Vaulted Glove Box on your 1997-2006 Wrangler

Step 1: Carefully remove the factory glove box from vehicle by gently pulling forward on the plastic tab on the right side until the tab clears the dash and the box rotates out all the way or by releasing the holding strap. (Fig 1)

Step 2: Remove the eight Phillips screws that attach the dash to the steel framework. Now remove the factory lock catch at the top of the glove box opening by removing the two screws. (Save all screws use later) Note: Remember the factory screw mounting pattern, you will use the same pattern later.

Step 3: Measure, cut and mount the Neoprene strip across the top and down the sides of the Vaulted Glove Box frame. Stick the Neoprene strips where the door when closed would meet up against the frame. (Figure 3) This is to help reduce rattling and forma better seal.

Step 4: Position the Vaulted Glove Box into the dash. Bolt it in place using the ten factory screws that you removed earlier. (Fig 4) Be sure to use the factory mounting pattern. (Two holes will not be used) Note: Loosely start all the screws and before tightening them all the way.

Step 5: For full and total security it is recommended to drill the two extra holes located at the bottom of the frame and the two extra holes on the lock catch. (Fig 4) You can use the holes on the frame as a template to mark and drill the holes in the dash. CAUTION: make sure to check the backside for any obstructions. Use the included hardware to secure these holes.

Step 6: Loosely attach the door stop bracket on the backside of the glove box by inserting the threaded tabs into the slots, using the supplied wing nuts. Make sure the bracket is pushed down and that the curved section of the bracket is facing up. (Fig 5)

Step 7: Close the Vaulted Glove Box partially and adjust the height of the door stop bracket so that it will hit the lock catch bracket, keeping it from falling all the way open. (Fig 6) Tighten wing nuts now.

Step 8: You may need to push hard when you first close and lock the Vaulted Glove Box. Once the Neoprene strips have been broken in, this will no longer be necessary.

NOTE: To lock and unlock the Vaulted Glove Box; insert key, push down and turn. If you are unable to get the door to close properly you may need to adjust the lock catch on top. You may do this by carefully pushing or pulling the lock catch.

Warranty

Smittybilt (The Company) warrants to the original purchaser of this product that should the product or any part thereof, under normal use and conditions, be proven defective in material or workmanship within the warranty period of 90 DAYS from the date of purchase, such defect(s) will be repaired or replaced (At the Company’s option) without charge for parts or labor. To obtain repair or replacement within the terms of the warranty, the p oduct is to be delivered with proof of warranty coverage ( e.g. dated bill of sale, receipt), specification of defect, freight pre-paid with Returns Good Authorization Number from Smittybilt to place of purchase. Items returned to Smittybilt Automotive without an Returns Authorization Number will be refused and returned to sender at the senders expense.

This warranty does not apply to any product or part thereof which, in the opinion of the Company, has suffered or been damaged through altercation, improper installation, mishandling, misuse, neglect accident or acts of nature. THE EXTENT OF THE COMPANY’S LIABILITY UNDER THIS WARRANTY IS LIMITED TO THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT PROVIDED ABOVE AND, IN NO EVENT, SHALL THE COMPANY’S LIABILITY EXCEED THE PURCHASE PRICE PAID BY THE PURCHASER FOR THIS PRODUCT.

ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE DURATION OF THIS WRITTEN WARRANTY. ANY ACTION FOR BREACH OF ANY WARRANTY HEREUNDER INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY MUST BE BROUGHTH WITHIN A PERIOD OF 90 DAYS FROM DATE OF ORIGINAL PURCHASE.IN NO CASE SHALL THE COMPANY BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES FOR BREACH OF THIS OR ANY OTHER WARRANTY, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED,WHATSOEVER. No person or representative is authorized to assume for the company any liability other than expressed herein in connection with the sale of this product.
