1. With the factory tire carrier removed, fasten the Tailgate Bracket to the appropriate hole locations shown below using the factory bolts. The bolts are standard sizes so if they are not available, they can be purchased at a local hardware store. The JK bolts are M8x20 and the YJ and TJ bolts are 5/16-18.
2. With the tailgate and tire carrier in the closed and latched position, place Tire Carrier Bracket on the horizontal beam of the A-frame tire carrier and position it to the right of the Tailgate Bracket. Use the Coupler to connect the two Rod Ends. Note that the ends of the Coupler have opposing threads to allow for length adjustment. This also means that each end of the Coupler must fasten to the appropriately threaded Rod End. Thread the Coupler half way into each Rod End to allow room for final adjustment later.
3. Mark the location of the outer edge of the Tire Carrier Bracket on the horizontal beam of the tire carrier with tape.
4. Remove the Coupler and open the tire carrier. With the Tire Carrier Bracket in the correct location, mark the two hole locations for mounting the Tire Carrier Bracket. Remove the bracket and drill these holes to 5/16”.
5. Use the supplied M10 Self-Tapping bolts to tap threads into the holes in the horizontal beam.
6. Install the Tire Carrier Bracket to the horizontal beam of A-frame tire carrier using the M10 Self-Tapping Bolts.
7. With the tailgate closed, and the tire carrier unlatched, use the Coupler to connect the Rod Ends. Adjust the Coupler to the appropriate length that allows both the tailgate and tire carrier to close together. Use the jam nut provided to lock the threads.
8. This product will work differently with different tire carriers. Always open or close the tailgate first then release or attach the tire carrier latch. The latching mechanism of some tire carriers may interfere with the closing of the tailgate. In this case, it may be necessary to close the tailgate while holding the tire carrier latch in the open to avoid interference.
