Description
Specs. Rugged Ridge's long shaft 40-tooth speedometer gear for cable speedometers recalibrates this important measurement after you have installed large aftermarket tires, changing the axle gear ratio, or both. Featuring OE style fit in the transfer case tail housing, this gear gives you a reading accurate to within 3% of your actual speed and distance traveled when installed with the correct tires and gears. This lets you stay safe on the highway and better figure out your location on the trail.
Construction. This 40-tooth speedometer gear from Rugged Ridge is fabricated from stainless steel and orange plastic, color-coded to the tooth number. It fits cable speedometer applications that need a long shaft gear. Manufactured to OEM standards and fitment specs, this gear is backed by a 5 year limited warranty against defects from the maker. Consult a gear tooth chart before purchase to ensure a correct match with your Jeep's tire size and gear ratio.

Make the speedo, right!
After putting in 4.88, gears from the stock, 3.07, the speedometer was going crazy thought I was going to twist it out of the dash. Putting in the new 41 tooth gear brought it down to the correct speed port perfectly.

Think Eccentric
I received the part, pulled the sensor, removed the old gear and put in the new one. I replaced the sensor exactly as I had taken it out. drove the jeep and speedometer didn't work. Put old speedometer gear back in and speedometer worked. To make a long story short I noticed on the 4th try the speed sensor is eccentric, meaning, where the speedometer gear pushes in is off center of the speed sensor. I Rotated it 180 degrees and pushed it into the transfer case and speedometer worked. With this knowledge, time to install would be 10 minutes.
