Description
Specs. Changing the gear ratio and tire size on your Jeep Grand Cherokee is a great aftermarket power-up that can yield more horsepower and/or torque depending on your choices. However, it can also throw the speedometer off kilter. Rugged Ridge's 37 tooth long shaft speedometer gear is meant as a replacement for the stock gear when 27 inch, 31 inch, or 35 inch tires are installed at specific gear ratios. This gear will give you the accurate readings needed to judge trail speed and avoid tickets on-road.
Construction. Rugged Ridge's 37 tooth long shaft speedometer gear is compatible with ZJ, which include cable speedometers. This gear is manufactured out of steel and plastic and comes with a 5 year limited warranty. It is suitable for use with 27 inch tires and a 3.73 gear ratio, 31 inch tires and a 4.10 gear ratio, and 35 inch tires and a 4.56 inch gear ratio. If your Grand Cherokee has a different tire size and gear ratio combination, consult a speedometer gear chart.
Application. Fits 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee ZJ models.

Make the speedo, right!
After putting in 4.88, gears from the stock, 3.07, the speedometer was going crazy thought I was going to twist it out of the dash. Putting in the new 41 tooth gear brought it down to the correct speed port perfectly.

Think Eccentric
I received the part, pulled the sensor, removed the old gear and put in the new one. I replaced the sensor exactly as I had taken it out. drove the jeep and speedometer didn't work. Put old speedometer gear back in and speedometer worked. To make a long story short I noticed on the 4th try the speed sensor is eccentric, meaning, where the speedometer gear pushes in is off center of the speed sensor. I Rotated it 180 degrees and pushed it into the transfer case and speedometer worked. With this knowledge, time to install would be 10 minutes.

Bought this to correct speedometer after installing 4.56 gears with 33" tires, speedometer is right on now. Took about 5 minutes to install. Watch You Tube video to make sure it's timed correctly.
