Key Features. Life's too short to worry endlessly about thieves, so installing this Rugged Ridge Hood Lock Kit is a good way to put your mind at ease. Unlike some security measures, this one is pretty difficult to see, since it's hidden behind the front grille, yet is quick and easy to access. Also, you don't have a big lock ruining the looks of your beloved rig. There's a cover for the actual lock, which is handy for keeping debris, ice and other stuff from getting stuck in there so you can't stick the key in. The lock is strong and durable, keeping crooks from taking your modified or built engine.
Construction. Made of steel, this Rugged Ridge Hood Lock Kit is strong enough to resist persistent attemps to break into a Jeep's engine compartment. The system is also designed to not rattle around when driving on any roads or trails, avoiding a major annoyance. Two brass keys are included in the kit, just in case you lose or misplace one.
Installation. All hardware needed to mount the Hood Lock Kit is supplied by Rugged Ridge, so you don't have to hunt any down. You do need to have a screwdriver for the job, but no other tools are necessary. The actual installation process is moderately difficult, mostly because you need to reach through the grille to attach and tighten the mounting hardware to the lock assembly. It might be somewhat tricky reachign the lock, thanks to weatherstripping, and keeping the locking bar over the hood latch lever while attaching the screws and washers can require some trial and error. You should set aside at least an hour for the job, although it could take longer than that to get everything adjusted correctly and tightened down. An easy to follow installation guide is available.
Application. All 1987-1995 Jeep Wranglers or YJs are compatible with the Hood Lock Kit from Rugged Ridge.

Installation
Looks pretty decent and sturdy for a good lock. Seen better but for the price, it’s a good product. There are no installation instructions but I figured it out pretty quick.

Great deterrent
Moving it into position was the hardest part, and wasn't difficult getting it in there. Fits nicely and it's easy for anyone to do. Keeps the average Joe from gaining access to the engine compartment. I feel more comfortable after just installing new wiring and putting new parts under the hood.

Hood lock
It's worth the money and piece of mind. It's a product to keep anyone out from under your hood. Anyone with the proper tools could still get in but that's what the alarm is for . Jeep on :-))

2013 JK Wrangler
It took me awhile to install and adjust and the key is really fidgety but it does the job. If you have a mesh grill however it will not work. Had to cut a hole to access it.

Great hood latch works on a early TJ
I'm going to clear up some confusion this will only work on a early 97 TJ the later models won't work jeep changed the hood latch setup later, yes not all TJ's are the same, if you dont have a open hole or slot where the latch is (as you open the hood on top) then you will want this one instead, this latch works great and is super easy to install, seems to be built well too 10/10 works great it has alot of adjustments to fit just right, only downfall is it dosen't come with instructions but they are here under the install and instructions section with the item description
