Note: These headlight guards require the removal of the Grille. If you are planning to upgrade headlamps, install a mesh grille screen or change out grilles now would be a good time for that as well.
1. Raise hood and prop open.
2. Locate the grille retainer clips running across the top of the grille.
3. There is one on each side and four in the center. (Total of six)
4. With your straight bladed screwdriver gently pry the center of each retainer up.
5. Gently pry the retainer clip out.
6. Do this for all of the retainer clips.
7. Place the retainer clips in a tray and put them in a safe place.
8. Gently tilt your grille forward and reach behind the grille with the straight blade screwdriver. Pry the retainers away on each side. There is one under each headlight above the parking light/ turn signal. This is where you may need the flashlight.
9. If you do not have grille inserts or a mesh grille screen reach through the grille with the straight blade screwdriver and gently pry the retainers away from the lower metal radiator support. There are four in the support. If your grille is covered pull the grille straight out and the clips should release.
10. Once all retainers are clear tilt the grille forward from the top.
11. Grasp the parking light/turn signal bulb holder and twist it free.
12. Pull the bulb socket out of the housing. Do this on both sides.
13. Remove the grille.
14. And put it somewhere safe.
15. Special Note: Work on one headlamp at a time through completion.
16. Using your Torx bit screwdriver remove the headlight retainer ring screws and remove the retaining ring. Place the Torx head screws in your tray. You will need them to install the guard and they are not easily replaced.
17. Be careful not to let the headlamp fall out. Remove the retainer ring. Set it aside.
18. The Rugged Ridge Headlight Euro Guards replace the retainer ring. Make sure the headlamp is aligned correctly, (they have locating tabs) and start the torx head screws but do not tighten them until all four are installed.
19. The guard is a tight fit so make sure the head lamp is properly aligned and tighten all screws. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
20. Repeat this process for the other side.
21. Set the grille in place tilted forward and reconnect the parking light/turn signals by twisting them back into the housing.
22. Line the retainers up on the lower supports first.
23. Set the grille up and snap back in place. Then make sure the retainers under the headlamps are snapped in.
24. Replace all retainers on the top of the grille.
25. That’s it. Check your lights to make sure everything works, close the hood and enjoy.
