A comfortable Jeep is a well-ventilated one. While retracting your Renegade BU’s sunroof and putting down the windows can make for a cool (and windy) journey, having a hard-working air conditioning system is priceless.
A comfortable Jeep is a well-ventilated one. While retracting your Renegade BU’s sunroof and putting down the windows can make for a cool (and windy) journey, having a hard-working air conditioning system is priceless. Those hot summer months can seem never-ending if your Jeep’s AC system is not functioning properly, especially as you’re trawling your 4-wheel drive through the scorching sand dunes.
The launch of the Renegade just a few years ago saw Jeep as one of the early adopters of a new AC system in more ways than one. In lieu of copper hoses, plastic piping was introduced for the AC lines, providing the advantage of being lighter, both in cost and in weight, and not as sensitive to heat. But it doesn’t stop there. Jeep Renegade owners also benefit from the revamped AC system inner workings thanks to its use of the newer R-1234yf refrigerant. As the lightest of its kind, R-1234yf type refrigerant requires only about 450 grams (15.8 ounces) for a full reservoir. Of course, new advances like these do not mean much without a working AC system, which is why regular servicing is strongly recommended.
Neglecting your AC system can lead to damage or leaks, both of which can cause refrigerant to drip and negatively affect your Jeep’s compressor and evaporator. Indicators of a faulty AC system include a lack of cold air blowing from the ventilators, clicking noises coming from where the AC system is stored or simply a non-functioning or non-responsive AC system. To avoid running into potential problems, keep your refrigerant tank topped up to the proper capacity and schedule regular AC system checks with competent providers. Early detection of any arising issues with your AC is likely to mean more trips maneuvering your Renegade comfortably through the sand dunes on hot sunny days.
