Specs. The Nitto Trail Grappler was designed for Jeep owners that want a serious mud tire that's easy to live with everyday. The tread pattern on this LT295/70R18 Trail Grappler has been engineered to reduce highway road noise by 36 percent over Nitto's Mud Grappler. The tread design balances voids and tread blocks which contributes to the quiet ride while still evacuating mud and dirt from the tread. Stone ejector tabs also help to keep the contact patch clean, and unique 3D tapered grooves on the edge of the tread blocks increase traction on the trail. On the road, twin steel belts provide a smooth ride and enhance tread life. Deep center sipes help resist hydroplaning, and a deep "Z" groove down the center of the tire increases traction in rain and mud. The Nitto Trail Grappler has 3-ply polyester reinforced sidewalls with deep side lugs for added traction in aired-down driving situations. The side lugs also have side siping to provide additional grip in the mud and snow. There's two sidewall patterns, so you can choose the right look for your rig. Each tire is covered by a 45,000 mile warranty, so you'll be able to enjoy these tires, worry free.
Application. Fits 1987 - 2024 YJ, TJ, and JK Wranglers.
What is the best gear ratio to run for larger tires? When you increase the diameter of your tires, your vehicle's engine has to work harder to turn them. Naturally, this will lead to increased fuel consumption and reduced performance. So, when upgrading to a set of larger tires you should re-gear your rig to regain this lost acceleration, performance and fuel economy.
Find your original tire size and gear ratio using the chart listed below, the intersection should be your approximate RPMs at 65 MPH. Then find your new tire size and follow it across to the closest RPM to your original tires, this will be your gear ratio choice.
This chart is based on driving at 65 MPH with a 1:1 gear ratio and a manual transmission in 4th gear. Please note if your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission your RPMs will be higher due to normal transmission and the torque converter slippage. In overdrive your RPMs will be approximately 15% to 30% less than indicated.
