Specs. The Nitto Trail Grappler is intended for the extreme off-road enthusiast who isn't shy to drive their Wrangler through anything. In addition, Nitto engineered this 35x12.5R18 tire to reduce road noise by 36 percent over their Mud Grappler tire. The tread design balances voids and tread blocks which also contributes to the quiet ride, but also self-cleans. Stone ejector tabs also help to keep the contact patch clean, and the 3D tapered grooves on the edge of the tread blocks enhance off-road traction. Twin steel belts provide a smooth ride while you're on pavement and lengthen tread life. Deep siping reduce this risk of hydroplaning, and a "Z" groove down the center of the tire increases traction in rain and mud. This tire also features puncture resistant, 3-ply polyester reinforced sidewalls with deep side lugs. The siped side lugs add traction in aired-down driving situations as well as in mud and snow. There are two sidewall patterns, so you can choose which look will accent your rig. Nitto backs their tires with a 45,000 mile warranty for your peace of mind.
Application. Fits 1987 - 2024 YJ, TJ, and JK Wranglers.
What is the best gear ratio to run for larger tires? When you increase the diameter of your tires, your vehicle's engine has to work harder to turn them. Naturally, this will lead to increased fuel consumption and reduced performance. So, when upgrading to a set of larger tires you should re-gear your rig to regain this lost acceleration, performance and fuel economy.
Find your original tire size and gear ratio using the chart listed below, the intersection should be your approximate RPMs at 65 MPH. Then find your new tire size and follow it across to the closest RPM to your original tires, this will be your gear ratio choice.
This chart is based on driving at 65 MPH with a 1:1 gear ratio and a manual transmission in 4th gear. Please note if your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission your RPMs will be higher due to normal transmission and the torque converter slippage. In overdrive your RPMs will be approximately 15% to 30% less than indicated.
