Meredith: If you're a fan of the factory rear bumper but you wish it offered a bit more protection, this MP Concepts Forged Aluminum Rear Bumper will be a great addition to your 2018 or newer JL Wrangler. Now, this will have a factory-style look similar to the factory Rubicon steel rear bumper, which will be great for the JL owner who's looking to keep it simple when it comes to the style but up to game when it comes to the construction. Now, this rear bumper will be durable and able to handle whatever gets thrown at it, so you can keep some peace of mind if you're taking your JL off-road or even just want the extra protection for your daily adventures. This will be made of a forged aluminum construction being rigid yet lightweight while featuring an OE-style epoxy and textured black powder coat finish on top to protect the aluminum underneath. Now, what I like about this choice is that this also comes with pre-installed smoke marker lights and an LED license plate light on the center and over on the side, which will offer a pretty stealthy look compared to the stock red reflectors and, of course, it's going to keep you street legal with that license plate light over on the side. Now, this will even come with the side trim pieces for all models to maintain that factory finished look where the bumper connects to the fender. Not to mention, this will accommodate all of the factory features including a factory hitch and the rear parking or backup sensors if your Jeep is equipped with those features. When it comes to prices, this will be moderately priced at roughly $775. Now, comparing this to other heavy-duty options in the category, again, this is going to mimic the factory construction as to where most will have a boxy or an aftermarket appeal. Now, you'll also see choices with additional features including recovery points, lighting, and even a tire carrier if that's what you're looking for. But I think if you're looking to keep it simple, sleek, and don't necessarily need the additional recovery or added features, then this is going to be a great pick. Now, install will be pretty straightforward, but I am going to give this a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, taking you on average about two hours to get the job done. Now, this will come with all factory style hardware, so you'll just need some basic hand tools for the job. Now, at this point, we can head over to the shop. We'll go through a detailed breakdown of the install, so that's going to wrap it up for me. Let's go ahead and get into it.Man: For this install, you'll need a 3/8 impact, a 3/8 ratchet, a 7/8 socket, a lug nut socket, a 22-millimeter socket, an 18-millimeter socket, an 8-millimeter socket, a 10-millimeter deep socket, a 3/8 and 1/2 adapter, 16-millimeter socket, a T40 Torx bit, a quarter-inch ratchet, a 10-millimeter wrench, a 13-millimeter wrench, wire stripper tools, crimpers, a 5-millimeter Allen, a Phillips head screwdriver, and diagonal cutters. All right, today we're gonna install a new rear bumper on our Jeep Wrangler, but first we're gonna watch a video on how to uninstall the stock one, and then we'll come back here to install the new one.Woman: So, our first step is gonna be to get our spare tire out of the way. Now, you have a Mopar toolkit in your JL, so you're gonna need the T40 Torx bit and the ratchet out of that kit. And we're gonna go ahead and remove the cover off of our camera so we can slide our spare tire off. So, first thing we have to do is take this T40 Torx and just unlock this cover. Once it's unlocked, we can just pull back on that and then we'll be able to get our spare tire off. So, this step is going to depend on what lug nuts you have on your Wrangler. I'm using our lug nut key as well as a 7/8-inch socket and I'm gonna remove our lug nuts on our JL. So once those three lug nuts are off, we can fully remove our spare tire.So our next step is gonna be inside this wheel well here. We have to remove a trim piece in order to expose the bolts that are holding on our bumper onto our frame. Now, you are gonna need an 8-millimeter socket as well as a ratchet to get that off and we can head underneath the Jeep. So there are going to be three bolts holding on this trim piece. There's gonna be one at the front and then two in the rear. I'm gonna start with this one in the front with my 8-millimeter deep socket. You can also use a hand ratchet as well. I'm just using an air ratchet just to speed up the process. Now we're going to take out the back two bolts. Now I can remove this trim piece, get it out of the way, and that's going to expose these two bolts on the frame. Now I'm going to remove these two frame bolts using a 16-millimeter socket. Now we can repeat that process on the other side.So you can do this next step one of two ways to fully remove the bumper. What I'm gonna do is remove the bumper from the primary bracket here. You can remove the bracket from the frame, but to give you guys a better visual of what we're gonna do next, I'm going to remove the bumper from the bracket with a 16-millimeter socket. So while we're also on the driver side, we wanna make sure to disconnect our harness that is for the license plate light. So I'm just going to press that tab down and pull that away. Now we can move over to the other side and remove our two bolts on our bumper bracket. So now we can remove our rear bumper. So, you are gonna have to wiggle those side brackets around the frame. It may kick off the little spring clips that were holding on those bolts for the trim piece. However, we can wiggle that off.So, our next step is just to take this bracket off. This was originally attached to our bumper. Like I said, there was two different ways to do this. You could either take the bolts out of the frame or you could take the bolts out of the bumper. I wanted to give you guys a better visual, so I took the bolts out of the bumper. I'm going to use a 21-millimeter socket in my impact to remove these two bolts on the passenger side. So for the driver's side, you're gonna have two of the same bolts that you had on the passenger side on the side here, and then you're gonna have two at the bottom since we do have the tow hook on the driver's side. So I'm gonna take that 21-millimeter socket and remove those side bolts, and then we'll remove the bottom bolts. So we can finagle this bracket out, then we can remove these two bottom bolts that are holding in the rest of our tow hook. Make sure you have a hand on your tow hook. This is gonna fall once you remove that last bolt, but it's gonna be that same 21-millimeter socket.Man: All right, now that we got the bumper off, what we need to do is we need to swap over the tag light. So, we're gonna take a wrench or a 10-millimeter ratcheting wrench and take our two nuts off. All right. Now, to get our new bumper ready, we have our auxiliary lights that are installed in the new bumper. What we'll need to do is extend the wiring from the one side over to the tag light side, and then we're gonna splice our wiring into the tag light light. All right. First thing we're gonna do, we're gonna get our two wires, our black and our red, ready. They are stripped back a little bit. We can strip them back a little bit more. And then we're going to do the same thing with our wire extensions. All right, now we're going to grab our black and our black wire. We're gonna grab our connector. We're gonna start by crimping it off of one side first. Grab your wire crimpers, and then put the extension in, do the same thing. Do the same thing for the red wire. All right, now we can go over to the other light. All right, now over this light, you can wire yours up however you like. We are gonna wire ours into a spade connector so we can plug it into our quick connect. First thing we do is strip the wires back, connect our black wires together, get our spade connector, slide that in and crimp it. Do the same thing for the red wire. All right, now we can just clean up our wiring a little bit. We're just gonna bunch it together. Put it under here and zip tie it, and grab some diagonal cutters and just cut off the end.All right, now we just need to install our stock tag light. There's a Phillips head screw holding the cover in. We just gotta take that out and then we're gonna install our old tag light with our old 10-millimeter nuts. All right, because of the clearance, you might need to grab a ratchet with a 10-millimeter deep socket. All right, we have a few parts to install on our bumper before it goes onto the vehicle. We have our outer trim, which we'll will start with. We're gonna place that on the outside of the bumper. We're gonna take our three 5-millimeter Allen bolts and 13-millimeter nuts and install the bracket on. Grab our Allen wrench, 13-millimeter socket, tighten them down. All right, now we can install our inner bracket. The inner bracket is gonna go in like so, have the long part on the bottom. We are gonna grab our two 18-millimeter bolts with flat washers and install them in. Grab your ratchet and tighten them down. All right, now we can install our outer bracket. What we're gonna do is take two of our supplied nut plate clips, slide them onto our bracket, and then take two of our supplied 5-millimeter bolts with washers and we're going to install it on the bumper here. All right, now we can just repeat the same process for the other side. All right, now before the bumper goes on, we just need to hook up our quick connectors onto the tag light harness so our spade connectors can plug into them. Just take the connector, clamp it over the wire. All right, now we can connect our wiring. We're gonna take our red wire and hook it up to the white and blue because that is our power. We're going to take our black and hook it up to the black. And then we can plug our connector into our tag light. All right, now we can take our bumper and just slide it into place. All right, now that we have the bumper up in here, we can secure our bracket with our tow hook. Now, this is gonna be kind of hard to see, but you just will be reinstalling the four 21-millimeter bolts that you took out. All right, now we can reinstall our two 16-millimeter bolts that we took out of our back factory bracket and install them to hold up our new bracket. All right, now we can repeat the same process on the other side. You just don't have a tow hook on the other side. All right, now we can put our spare tire back on. We're gonna lift it up, put it on the studs, grab our impact and our 7/8 socket with our lug nut socket and tighten the three lug nuts down. And now we can put our rear view camera cover back on.Meredith: So that's gonna wrap it up for my review and the install of the MP Concepts Forged Aluminum Rear Bumper fitting all 2018 and newer JL Wranglers.
