JKS Exhaust Extension Kit (12-17 Wrangler JK)

Installation Instructions:

1. First lift or jack the Jeep up if you can, but this can also be accomplished without a lift. Next loosen the midpipe connector using a 15mm socket. It is the one just downstream of the Y pipe under the driver side door. Also spray some penetrating oil in the pipe joint so it can soak in.  ​

2. Next you will need to remove the small metal index tab shown below. Steps 3-4 will detail how to remove it.

3. Attach a ratchet strap from the exhaust hanger to the frame as shown below. Then tighten the strap until the exhaust joint shown pulls apart a few inches. This will give you the room to remove the index tab. Note: If you have trouble with this step, make sure to use extra penetrating oil in the exhaust joint and give it time to soak in.  

4. Next use a dremmel with a metal cutoff wheel, or a sawzall to remove the small index tab from the Y pipe. Take your time and grind it smooth, it is a tight spot and hard to work in. It should look something like this once it is removed.  

5. Next, attach a ratchet strap from the Y-pipe to the resonator as shown below. Tighten the strap until the mid pipe slides back over the Y-pipe. You want it to slide past the point where it covers the spot of the removed index tab. This is the reason you removed the index tab.  

6. Using a 13mm socket remove the 4 bolts holding the 2 exhaust joints together. You may need penetrating oil on these bolts to loosen them if your exhaust is older.  

7. The top bolt on the left hand joint is hard to get to, I recommend using a long socket extension as shown below. Once all 4 bolts have been completely removed you can pull apart the 2 joints. You may need to pry them apart.  

8. Insert the smaller of the 2 spacers in the left hand (Driver side) joint, and install the shorter 2 bolts and washers supplied with the kit. You may need to pry the joint apart to fit the spacer in. For this spacer the larger opening should be facing the rear of the Jeep as shown below. It should only fit in the correct way. Lightly hand tighten the bolts to keep the joint together for now. Note: with some transmission skid plates, these spacers can cause the exhaust pipe to contact the skid plate. If this happens, you may be able to fix it by installing the larger spacer on the driver side and the smaller spacer on the passenger side.  

9. Now insert the larger of the 2 spacers in the joint on the right hand side (passenger side) joint. This spacer should have the smaller opening facing the rear of the jeep as shown below. Use the larger 2 supplied bolts and washers to secure this joint as shown. I found that the supplied bolts are slightly too long, to compensate you will need a few extra washers (about ½”), otherwise you won’t be able to fully tighten the joint. Next, adjust the pipe to align both joints as straight as possible. Once the pipe is adjusted as well as possible you can tighten all 4 bolts to 25ft/lbs using a 13mm socket and torque wrench.  

10. Last, using a 15mm socket, retighten the midpipe connector and any other exhaust parts you loosened. Note: I recommend you check and retighten all hardware after driving a few hundred miles.
