How to Install a Bestop Traditional Bikini Top on your 1987-1991 Jeep Wrangler YJ

The Bestop Bikini Top is designed to attach to your Jeep® or Toyota Land Cruiser® windshield and to be supported by the factory roll bar.

Step One

Unfold the top and lay it upside down on the hood. Insert the front edge of the top into the retainer channel on the windshield. Then flip it over the windshield and roll bar. Pull the top down at the rear with the two straps.

Note:

Your vehicle will be equipped with a retainer channel if you have a complete soft top. If you are installing the Bikini Top on a vehicle designed for a hard top, it will be necessary to obtain a retainer from your local distributor.

Step Two

Buckle the straps to the footman loops on the rear corners of the vehicle (footman loops are standard equipment on Jeep® soft top models).

Note:

​On the CJ8 and Scrambler models, it will be necessary to locate the footman loops on the sides of the vehicle rather than at the corners.

Step Three

Install a snap stud (the half of the snap that goes into the vehicle body) on each corner of the windshield frame to hold the front corners secure. Drill 3/32" holes and install the snap studs.

Note:

The Bestop Bikini Top is designed to snap to the Jeep® original equipment snap studs on the windshield frame. However, due to installation variations, it may be necessary for you to install new studs to insure that the Bikini Top is stretched tight across the windshield frame. This is important to insure that the Bikini Top stays securely fastened to the windshield at high speeds.

Step Four

The Bikini Top can be removed easily or you can leave it attached at the windshield and roll the top up to fasten it to the windshield with the factory straps when you lay the windshield down on the hood. You can than put the windshield and the top back up in seconds in case of rain.

We warrant our product to be free from defects in material and workmanship, for the terms specified below, provided there has been normal use and proper maintenance. This warranty applies to the original purchaser only. All remedies under this warranty are limited to the repair or replacement of any item or items found by the factory to be defective within the time period specified.

If you have a warranty claim, first you must call our factory at the number below for instructions. You must retain proof of purchase and submit a copy with any items returned for warranty work. Upon completion of warranty work, if any, we will return the repaired or replaced item or items to you freight prepaid. Damage to our products caused by accidents, fire, vandalism, negligence, misinstallation, misuse, Acts of God, or by defective parts not manufactured by us, is not covered under this warranty.

THE WARRANTY TIME PERIOD IS AS FOLLOWS: ALL “SOFT GOODS” MANUFACTURED BY OUR COMPANY (USING PRIMARILY VINYLS, PLASTICS, AND/OR FOAM): ONE YEAR FROM DATE OF PURCHASE.

ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND/OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE CREATED HEREBY ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO THE SAME DURATION AND SCOPE AS THE EXPRESS WRITTEN WARRANTY. OUR COMPANY SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGE.

Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, or the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations or exclusions may not apply to you. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
