How to Install MORryde Heavy Duty TailGate Hinge Set (07-17 Wrangler JK) on your Jeep Wrangler

Installation Time

45 minutes

Tools Required
  • Large or torque wrench and lug key (to remove spare tire)
  • 13mm socket, wrench, and extension
  • T-50 torx bit
  • 5mm allen wrench
  • Automotive blackout tape
  • Scissors (to trim tape)
  • Towel or rag (to wipe down Jeep if desired)

Installation Instructions:


1. Remove spare tire and set aside


2. Remove plastic pieces covering factory hinges




3. Remove two bolts connecting top factory hinge to tailgate using 13mm socket and wrench


4. Remove three bolts connecting factory hinge to jeep quarter-panel using T-50 torx bit and wrench (Note: youwill have to swing open the hinge to access the two bolts closest to the tailgate



5. Wipe down any dirt or dust behind factory hinge, especially if installing automotive blackout tape


6. Install heavy duty hinge to quarter-panel using the same method when removing the factory bolts but withincluded kit bolts and 5mm allen wrench (Note: Do not fully tighten at this point to allow for adjustments; It is also recommended to use included anti-seize on these bolts when installing)


7. Close hinge against tailgate to check for any areas that need blackout tape (included with kit or can bepurchased separately) and apply as necessary


8. Attach heavy duty hinge to tailgate using bolts included in the kit and serrated lock washers with 13mm socket wrench and extension using anti-seize on bolts if desired (Note: Lock washers should be installed between bolthead and outside of hinge; Do not fully tighten at this point to allow for adjustments)


9. Repeat steps 3 - 8 on bottom hinge


10. Adjust hinges so that the tailgate latches properly and the tailgate support mount below the latch lines up and helps to support the tailgate



11. Tighten all bolts once aligned


12. Grease hinges using grease zerks inside of hinges


13. Reinstall spare tire
