Problem Solver. Jeeps with bigger tires or a modified engine must have the ATS Diesel 42RLE Co-Pilot Transmission Controller to increase the transmission line pressure, which compensates for greater power levels or oversized tires. The Co-Pilot functions on any stock or modified transmission. When combined with an ATS transmission or valve body, maximum line pressure is attained, resulting in the highest transmission performance and trust. Small clutch packs frequent slip torque converter lock-up, poor hard parts, and insufficient line pressure plague the 42-RLE. With only a minor tune or wider tires, these concerns can typically result in the demise of the stock transmission. These issues are addressed and resolved by the ATS Diesel 42RLE Co-Pilot Transmission Controller.
Upgraded Transmission Reliability. Because of the way the factory TCM is designed, the Co-Pilot has a significant advantage over TCM programming for 2007 to 2011 Jeeps. We've discovered that when aftermarket tuning for higher line pressures is performed on the ECM/TCM to command higher line pressure in the transmission, many, if not all, aftermarket TCM tuning will produce a radical pressure variation that spikes line pressure, producing a slew of issues. As a result, TCM tuning is not wanted on the 3.8L, and when TCM tuning is utilized, many tuners do not allow for complete line pressure increases as the Co-Pilot does. The Co-Pilot handles this with an averaging circuit that offers a very smooth and controllable line pressure climb up.
Provides More Control. Under high torque conditions, the Co-Pilot controls clutch timing and line pressure. Plus, it provides a more forceful application to the converter clutch. Line pressure in a stock 42-RLE is limited to 90 PSI. Unfortunately, this is insufficient to avoid clutch slippage at higher power levels. Whenever necessary, the Co-Pilot detects throttle position and rapidly takes control of line pressure. When the car is driven lightly, the line pressure is close to stock, allowing for pleasant shifts and lower gearbox temperatures. The controller handles all of this automatically.
Improved Function. With the installation of an ATS Valve Body, line pressure and lubricating pressure are significantly boosted. While the ATS valve body installation is not required, it will improve the Co-functioning Pilot to its maximum capacity. To fully address all of the internal hydraulic concerns with the OEM 42-RLE Valve body, we recommend adding one of our customized valve bodies.
Secure Locking. The torque converter lock-up on the basic 42-RLE is inadequate. When using the little throttle, the factory TCM will order lock-up at a very low application rate, resulting in a slipping condition that destroys the converter clutch, especially when using a modified engine or running big tires. The ATS 42-RLE Co-Pilot will more securely lock the converter clutch during the application, allowing the 3.8L engine's inherent torque to be exploited for improved efficiency and performance.
